The Global Medallion Program has given me the chance to be more aware of what is going on around me, not only local but world wide. This program made be more excited about opportunities where I can connect with people that are not the same as me and learn from them and vice versa. Everything that I learned from this program has helped me gained a new perspective through my journey even after I graduate from FIU. All the information I received and experiences through the GL courses, Tuesday Round Tables, and my virtual internship with USAID are now experiences that I will take me with as I go into Business School. I used to wonder what it means to be a global citizen and how can I be one? but FIU gave me the answers for that and I'm very grateful for the valuable tools provided to me. I can now feel empower and be able to make a difference outside of my city, my country, my region. I look forward to keep making an impact in remote places and take initiative when there is none. After all we can't wait for change to happen by itself but we are the ones that make change happen. As a student at FIU I learned valuable skills, not only academically but social as well. Every opportunity I found to join a club or activity with FIU I went for it. The more I learned from these experiences the more hunger I would have to keep impacting my community. I saw many times outside of FIU the struggles students faced and I would always find ways to give back to my community and help those students that were struggling providing them with different resources. FIU shaped me as a world citizen and changed my perspective. My Internship with USAID showed me there is a need of students to think outside the box and give back to the world because we can't tackle these issues by ourselves but together. The program I was interning in highlighted the necessity for clean and other water sanitation needs that are basic human rights. Because of my experience with them it pushed me to reach out to other nonprofit institutions and offer my translation services so that their issues can reach other audiences that don't speak their language. This is something that the world should appreciate and contribute more into so we can have a better world. I also learned how everything is connect and how one issue can trigger another one, that is why we need to be innovative and think strategically to solve issues worldwide. The only way to solve global issues is to have a global perspective and the only way to have it by being exposed to different nationalities, cultures, and other points of views. I truly believe that we can find ways to implement our talents into different cultures for a global benefit. I'm a strong believe that higher education opens the door to many more opportunities and gives you the experience you need to thrive in today's world. That's why I plan to attend FIU Business School after graduation and pursue an MBA with a focus in Healthcare Management. After my experience in my internship and with the current pandemic, accessible healthcare and other basic right are not being given to people that live outside of major cities. There are families struggling everyday, not only families in the suburbs but also in remote areas like in Burkina, Faso or Cusco, Peru. It is my duty as a global citizen to look after other vulnerable population that dont have the means to access these valuable resources to stay healthy or to improve their way of living. I truly believe that my experience with the global medallion and it's everything that it is made up of has prepared me to embrace the world and give back. The GL courses helped prepare better on how I can communicate better to a non local audience and also to find my place in the world. I encourage other students to do the same and look at the world with a different perspective, one that includes others points of view into conversation in order to make the change that our society needs. It is up to us to leave this world better than we found and FIU has the tools that we need in order to do just that. |
